About AFSD

We are an independent group of supportive and concerned alumni formed to encourage a sustainable future for the institution. The group is working directly with on-campus student efforts and is consulting with administrators and on-campus offices about the many steps being taken toward on-campus sustainability. Interested in contributing to the effort?

Dickinson needs to hear from its Alumni that taking actions to build a campus, an institution, and a business based on principles of environmental sustainablity is a smart move.

In the fall of 2003, Alumni for a Sustainable Dickinson was formed in response to growing interest among Alumni to support the efforts of the College administration to make Dickinson an international model for sustainability. We are an independent group of supportive and concerned alumni formed to encourage a sustainable future for the institution. The group is working directly with on-campus student efforts and is consulting with administrators and on-campus offices about the many steps being taken toward on-campus sustainability.

Listed below are some of the ways the group is moving forward with momentum. This web site also acts as a simple display of the many possiblities the college has in showing and advertising the great qualities of the pro sustainability community on campus.

Raising The Standard

As a group of professional alumni in various fields including public relations, public policy and law, environmental science and natural resource management, the members of Alumni for a Sustainable Dickinson recognize the steps the College has taken in recent years to increase sustainable business practices. Campus programs in recycling, the purchase of renewable energy such as wind, the expansion of the Organic Garden, and the continued support for the Center for Sustainable Living have all created a great legacy.

Our group of volunteer Alumni will support and monitor the continuation of these and other efforts by the administration and students. We are dedicated to initiating and seeking funding and support for new programs to help make Dickinson a leader in sustainability among higher education institutions.

Gathering Support & Interest

AFSD has reached out to Alumni from all graduation years and all professional backgrounds. Much of our focus has been on engaging the network of individuals in the environmental and sustainable business fields that have been little utilized by the College to develop the college over the last 30 years. We foresee a great strategical and financial advantage for the College to engage these persons directly in a mission to reach full sustainability.
