Carlisle, PA - Dickinson's Center for Sustainable Living (CFSL)--known on campus as the Treehouse--will be moving to a new facility before the Fall 2006 semester. Treehouse residents and college administrators are working with architects on the environmentally friendly remodeling design for a cluster of townhouses along Louther Street. The new facility will feature a biomass pellet stove, passive solar, and radiant floor heating in the common area.
The new Tree House will be one of the few LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certified buildings at Dickinson.
In addition, photo voltaic panels, a composting toilet, rainwater catchment for toilet flushing, natural lighting through light tubes, and attached greenhouses are also being discussed. An open air patio and outdoor stove will create an outdoor living and social space.
For 15 years, Treehouse residents have been committed to living sustainably, serving as a model to the community and working to "green" the Dickinson campus. In an effort to enhance these efforts, by strengthening the network of people involved in the Center for Sustainable Living, current and former residents and friends of the Treehouse can participate in the discussion of old memories and new ideas by visiting the Treehouse Wiki.
